New printer models are flooding today's market, with no end in sight. Because of technical compatibility issues between printer drivers and operating systems, most software vendors find themselves limiting support to specific groups of printers and drivers, in order to provide efficient customer service. We have chosen to focus our testing on HP printers because they represent a significant percentage of the most commonly used models. Please note that the operating system you will be using determines which printers are supported. Other printers may work, but these are the only ones for which we can guarantee support.

PTE is developed in a Windows environment, which is generally more compatible with laser printers. Our experience has shown that the dot matrix printers have been less consistent than the laser printers.
Although the check stock available from Fiserv Document Solutions allows flexibility in horizontal and vertical data alignment, printers that are not supported by Fiserv Insurance Solutions may not allow for the proper adjustment to print AP checks correctly. Please refer to AP online documentation for additional check printing information.
When you upgrade to version 6.00 of PTE, a new check engine is required if you are using Generic/Text print drivers to create files that are later processed through other software/hardware. To implement this new check engine, two new files are required. Contact the PTE Support department at 800-397-0252 for more information.
When installing this print driver, the following is required:
Within PTE, the applicable Bank Code should have a check stub type set to Duplicate.
During the check printing process, once Process is selected on the Print Check screen, the normal Print window will be displayed. Select the Generic/Text printer as well as Print to File. After selecting OK, a second Print Setup window will be displayed. It will look similar to the previous window but will also include the Paper size. Verify the correct Paper size is selected on this screen. It is not necessary to adjust the fonts. After pressing OK, the system will prompt for the file name.
Due to the overwhelming number of printers available and their inherent differences in paper handling and data placement, Fiserv may not be able to support printers other than those in our printers list. Although the check stock available from Fiserv Document Solutions allows for great flexibility with the horizontal and vertical data alignment, there are printers on the market that do not allow for the proper adjustment to print AP checks correctly.
