Technical Environment
The Specialty System utilizes the IBM e-server iSeries 400 hardware platform
- a server proven to provide the stability required for "mission critical"
applications.
The iSeries is economical to operate and provides leading-edge technology for
today's e-business environment. The iSeries technology comes from a history
of successful IBM computers that have consistently enjoyed first place in numerous
user satisfaction surveys.
The
iSeries has consistently proven to be the lowest cost system considering overall
costs-- the initial cost for equipment, which can sometimes be higher for the
iSeries, is only a fraction of the total expenses of owning a system. Two very
important areas, software and operations staff, brings the total cost of the
iSeries below its competitors. Important functions that you have to worry about
with other machines - communications, security, data base administrators - take
place under the covers of an iSeries 400. They are built in, instead of being
layered on.
Boasting an average 99.9% availability, the iSeries proves to be an economical
solution- we're happy to report that we have customers who have never had a
system failure that caused them downtime.
The iSeries has leading-edge technology- 64-bit architecture from hardware
through its operating system to its application programs makes it unique in
the market. It is also the first to deliver Copper and Silicon-On-Insulator
(SOI) for breakthrough performance. It supports multiple operating environments
in addition to its native OS/400 - i.e. Linux and Windows. Provides application
development in most industry languages - RPG, COBOL, C++, Java and others. It
has the power and capabilities to support today's graphical and internet environments.
Many independent industry consultants have reported on the iSeries 400 and
its predecessor, the AS/400. View
